From mountain light to river stones
As a landscape photographer, I’ve spent years looking up and around—taking in mountain peaks, beautiful landscapes, changing skies, and that perfect light. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty around me, but I never really gave much thought to what was beneath my feet.
That changed in the spring of 2026.
A new friend invited me rock hounding along the Yellowstone River, hoping we might find the coveted Montana Moss Agate. I really had no idea that one day on the river would lead me down a completely unexpected path.
When we arrived, he gifted me the most beautiful cabochon. He had collected the stone himself and then cut and polished it, and his lapidary skills are amazing. I remember looking at that piece and being fascinated by what could be hidden inside a simple rock.
Revealing what is hidden inside
That beautiful cabochon, and the time spent on the river searching for stones, ignited something in me. I discovered a new passion for rocks, but even more than that, I became fascinated by what happens when a rough stone is cut, shaped, and polished. The colors and patterns that emerge can be absolutely incredible.
A few months later, Darlin Stone Co. ~ Montana was created.
I now search for and purchase rough rock from different parts of the world, looking for stones that have beautiful colors, interesting patterns, and that little something that makes me want to see what is hiding inside. Each piece of rough rock has its own personality, and I never really know exactly what it will reveal until I begin working with it.

Every stone is slabbed, cut, shaped, and polished by hand. Each pendant is carefully composed so the finished piece shows off its most beautiful colors and natural designs, then polished on both sides so you can turn it over and discover another view.
